Astronomy Comic Project

By Emily and Pedro

Spongebob travels on this spaceship:

In this unit we learned about outer space, our solar sytem, galaxy, and other galaxies. For the project we had a partner that was not in our class, we had to communicate with them

completely online. We each did research on a set of planets, moons, small bodies, and other things. And then we each created half of a comic using the other person's research. We put our halves of the comic together to create one comic about our Astronomy Unit.

The standards covered in this project are:

4. The structure and composition of the universe can be learned from the study of stars and galaxies, and their evolution.

  1. Galaxies are clusters of billions of stars, and may have different shapes.
  2. The sun is one of many stars in our own Milky Way galaxy. Stars may differ in size, temperature, and color.
  3. How to use astronomical units and light years as measures of distance between the sun, stars, and Earth.
  4. Stars are the source of light for all bright objects in outer space. The moon and planets shine by reflected sunlight, not by their own light.

  5. The appearance, general composition, relative position and size, and motion of objects in the solar system, including planets, planetary satellites, comets, and asteroids.
